Synanthropic species of Asteraceae in Michoacán, Mexico

چکیده

To study synanthropic plants (weeds), weeds need to be separated from non-weeds, a difficult task due the existing gradient in nature. A representative family of Mexican flora (Asteraceae) and state very rich species (Michoacán) are used as model for this additional analyses. total 357 listed based on critical review specimens bibliographic information, well defined criteria. In addition, tribes, growth forms, geographic similarities with other states examined endemic, more widespread native, introduced weeds. The main difficulty differentiating non-weeds was lack accurate habitat information herbarium labels. Most grew both disturbed natural environments. Nearly half were endemic country, only 4% introduced. major Asteraceae tribes had relatively similar proportions weeds, but exotics concentrated tribe Cichorieae. Floristic mainly towards south-central Mexico. herbs less than annuals. We contribute delimitation understanding species.

TEK, local perceptions of risk, and diversity of management practices of Agave inaequidens in Michoacán, Mexico

BACKGROUND Mescal production is the main economic activity associated to agaves in Mexico, which involves 53 species mostly harvested from forests. The increasing mescal demand has influenced risk in both agave populations and mescal production, but other social and ecological factors also intervene. We hypothesized that the greater the risk the greater the complexity of management responses; o...

Wild and synanthropic reservoirs of Leishmania species in the Americas

The definition of a reservoir has changed significantly in the last century, making it necessary to study zoonosis from a broader perspective. One important example is that of Leishmania, zoonotic multi-host parasites maintained by several mammal species in nature. The magnitude of the health problem represented by leishmaniasis combined with the complexity of its epidemiology make it necessary...

Diversity and distribution of Odonata (Insecta) larvae along an altitudinal gradient in Coalcomán mountains, Michoacán, Mexico.

Evaluating components of landscape diversity is essential for the implementation of efficient conservation strategies. We evaluated the diversity of Odonata larval assemblages from the Coalcomán mountains (CM), Michoacán, Mexico, and related it to local (site-level) habitat variables. Larvae were collected from shores, riffles and pools in five streams, counted and identified to species, twice ...
